Privacy Policy

Overview

Fish Identifier ("the App") is developed by Ideas All Day Ltd. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Photos

When you scan a fish, the photo is sent to a third-party AI provider for analysis via a secure backend service. Photos are processed in real-time to generate the species identification and are not permanently stored on our servers after analysis is complete. A copy of the photo is saved locally on your device alongside each catch you choose to keep.

Catch Log Data

Your identified fish, photos, dates, water type, and any catch metadata are stored locally on your device and synced privately through your personal Apple iCloud account. We do not have access to this data — it never reaches our servers.

Location

With your permission, the App captures your approximate location at the moment of an identification so it can be saved alongside the catch (purely so you can remember where you caught what). Location is captured only while the App is in use, is stored locally with your catch log, and is synced only through your private iCloud account. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the App works fully without it — catches simply will not have a location attached.

Analytics

We use a privacy-focused analytics service to understand aggregate app usage patterns — for example, how many identifications happen per session. This data is anonymous and cannot be traced back to individual users. We do not use device fingerprinting or cross-app tracking.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone)
  • Background or always-on location
  • Contacts or address book
  • Browsing history
  • Data from other apps

Categories of Third-Party Recipients

To deliver the App's functionality, limited data is shared with the following categories of third-party service providers:

  • AI inference provider — receives the photo and prompt for the duration of the identification request, governed by their own privacy policy.
  • Apple iCloud — syncs your private catch log between your own devices.
  • Subscription / paywall provider — manages premium credits and subscription state on Apple's App Store.
  • Anonymous analytics provider — receives aggregate, non-identifying usage events.

We do not sell or rent your data. If you would like to know the specific providers we currently work with, contact us using the email below.

Data Retention

Photos sent for AI analysis are not retained on our servers after processing. Your catch log persists on your device and your iCloud account until you choose to delete it. Deleting the App removes the local copy; iCloud copies follow Apple's standard retention rules for your account.

Children's Privacy

The App is rated for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. No account or sign-up is required to use the App.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Delete any catch from your log at any time
  • Delete all app data by removing the app from your device
  • Disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings
  • Revoke location permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
