Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2026

Overview

Fish Identifier ("the App") is developed by Ideas All Day Ltd. This policy explains the data used when you scan a fish, ask follow-up questions, save a catch, make a purchase, use analytics-enabled features, or submit product feedback. No account is required for the App itself.

Fish photos and AI requests

When you request photo-assisted identification, a resized copy of the selected photo and the identification prompt are sent over an encrypted connection to our AI gateway, AIProxy, and then to Anthropic for processing. The response may include a best-effort species suggestion, confidence information, visible traits, and reference information. Do not include people, documents, addresses, or other personal information in photos.

AIProxy may process operational security data such as your IP address, provider, model and route, request and response sizes, token counts, status, timing, and error information. Operational logs may be retained for up to 60 days. DeviceCheck is used in release builds for abuse prevention; a token hash and related IP information may be retained for up to 24 hours. Anthropic processes request content under its own terms and privacy practices.

Fish chat

When you ask a follow-up question, the question, the saved fish details needed to answer it, and the saved conversation are sent through AIProxy to Anthropic. Avoid entering personal or confidential information. Chat conversations you keep remain part of the saved fish record described below.

Saved catch data and iCloud

Saved fish records can include the selected photo, suggested species and reference details, date, optional coordinates and place name, achievements, settings, and chat conversations. This information is stored on your device. When iCloud is available, the App attempts to sync saved records through your private Apple iCloud account so they can appear on your devices. Apple processes iCloud data under its own terms and privacy policy. Ideas All Day Ltd. does not operate a separate database containing your saved catch journal.

Location

If you grant while-in-use location permission, the App can attach your current coordinates to a new fish record and use Apple's geocoding service to show a place name. Location is optional; you can deny or revoke access in iOS Settings. The App does not request background or always-on location. Avoid saving or sharing a location when it could expose a private site or a sensitive species.

Product analytics

The App uses Aptabase to receive limited product events such as app launches, features used, success or failure events, counts, feedback categories, subscription status, locale, and app version. Analytics events are designed not to include fish photos, species names, precise coordinates, free-form chat text, or other saved catch content. Aptabase may process technical information such as IP address according to its own service practices. We do not use this data for cross-app advertising or tracking.

Purchases and paywalls

Apple StoreKit processes purchases, billing, refunds, and subscription management. Superwall helps present paywalls and determine purchase or subscription state. These services may process product identifiers, purchase status, paywall interactions, and technical information needed to provide those functions. Ideas All Day Ltd. does not receive your full payment-card details.

Feature requests and feedback

If you open the feature-request portal, FeaturePortal provides that interface. It may use a persistent app-user identifier and process the requests, votes, comments, and viewed items you submit, together with technical information needed to operate the portal. The App can also send structured feedback categories and non-sensitive technical context through Aptabase. Do not include sensitive personal information in feedback.

Apple services and permissions

Apple may process App Store downloads, purchases, subscription state, ratings, crash information, diagnostics, DeviceCheck data, geocoding requests, and iCloud sync under your Apple settings and Apple's policies. The App requests camera, photo-library, or location access only when those features need it.

How we use data

  • Provide photo-assisted fish suggestions and contextual chat responses
  • Save and sync the catch and chat records you choose to keep
  • Attach an optional location and place name to a saved result
  • Operate purchases, subscriptions, paywalls, and free-use limits
  • Prevent abuse, diagnose failures, maintain reliability, and understand aggregate feature use
  • Receive product feedback when you choose to provide it

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Retention and deletion

Local and iCloud-synced records remain until you delete individual records, remove app data, or manage the App's iCloud data in Apple settings. Deleting the App removes its local data but may not automatically delete data already stored in iCloud. AIProxy operational data follows the periods described above. Apple, Anthropic, Aptabase, Superwall, and FeaturePortal retain data under their respective policies and account settings.

Your choices
